Make it clear to your dog that their crate is their home. When you feed him, feed him inside the crate, and keep the door open while he is in there eating. This will let them associate a positive with being in the crate.

Dogs can have a one-track mind and remain focused on one thing until you break the dog out of it. Repetition and practice will result in your dog waiting to take cues from you rather than being distracted by other things.

As you train your dog, be sure to create verbal cues to make your pet know that he is doing what you want it to do. Using an affirmative word can help your dog understand they did their part and it is time for a treat.

When you get your puppy, be sure to create a bond to him by helping him learn his name. Always refer to your dog by his name, and begin teaching him to come anytime it is called. These should be the primary words your dog needs to learn. Be around your puppy a lot, so he knows to trust you. This way he or she will be more open to some advanced training.

Accidents will happen sometimes when you house train your pet. Clean accidents right away to speed up training. Urine and feces smells will stay in the carpet if you don't clean them up straight away, causing your dog to go back to the same place to do his business. There are a wide variety of odor control products designed to address just this situation, so head to the pet shop and ask about them.

Consistency is key when housebreaking your dog. When you are at home, spend time with your dog and take him outside every hour. Make sure that you give praise if your dog goes to the bathroom outdoors. Never react harshly to your dog going potty inside. The yellowing won't help him understand, and he certainly doesn't know better. Allow your dog the chance to go out after meals and when he gets out of a crate/pen.

This knowledge should provide you with the confidence to train any dog. Use these tips and continue learning as you embark on your lifelong journey of discovery with your dog.
