Struggling With Dog Training? Try Using Some Of These Great Tips

Many people enjoy having pets, and dogs are especially popular. During infancy and in the early months of their lives, dogs tend to exhibit a personality filled with mischief, often leading to unintentionally destructive behavior. Read this article for tips on how to train your dog.

When crate training a new puppy or dog, help the dog realize that the crate is its home. When meal time comes, place the food bowl in the crate and keep the door open while the dog eats. The dog will recognize the crate as having delicious food.

Rewarding your dog properly and generously is important when it comes to training them. Treats, toys and praise have to be given in the right doses and at the correct times. A dog doesn't always know when it's being rewarded if they don't get a treat at the proper time.

Right at the moment they do the behavior you are trying to reinforce, give the verbal command of approval. “Yes” is the perfect word to show dogs approval before giving a treat.

Always treat a dog after completing tasks. Giving a treat is how you show your dog that you appreciate the behavior. This is the proper way to make sure that your dog learns the difference between right and wrong.

Early in your training, teach your new pup to “leave it.” This command tells him to drop the item and step away. This command teaches them to cease chewing on furniture or items around the house and it keeps them safe from filthy or hazardous items outside.

You indicate that jumping up is an unacceptable behavior by grabbing the dogs paws, squeezing gently and guiding them back down to the ground. While this will not seriously hurt the animal, it is certainly unpleasant and therefore makes a powerful statement. Before long, you dog will stop his jumping on people altogether.

To limit your dog's barking, see if you can acclimate them to whatever triggers their barking. It might be a noise or simply coming into contact with other animals or people. Your dog can learn he doesn't have to bark.

Use the appropriate tone of voice when you are correcting your pet. Dogs pick up on subtle changes in their owner's voices. By adopting a stern tone to your voice, it will be easier to enforce discipline.

You do not want to over-stress your new pup by trying to teach him too much too quickly. Puppies have a very limited attention span. When doing training, make them in small short sessions and always make them positive. If you try to do too much, the puppy will probably not remember much except that it was an unpleasant experience, and that will make it more difficult when the time comes for the next training session.

Remember how many treats you reward your dog with during the course of the day to avoid fattening him up. A lot of pet owners don't think about how much weight their dogs can put on with treats.

You should not have to choose between your beloved dog and a clean home. Train your dog to avoid destructive behaviors like chewing. If you remember to use the advice from this article, you will be able to coexist peacefully with man's best friend.
