Avoid letting your dog have accidents when potty training. Try to recognize your dog's body language and anticipate his need to go out. Pacing, sniffing and whining are common signs. When you know the cue, take action immediately. Get his leash so you can take him to the designated potty area. When he does go, praise him! Do this consistently and he will always let you know when he needs to go outside.

Over-training your puppy will expose it to too much at once, rendering the training less effective. Puppies do not have a very long attention span and limited energy, keep it brief and positive. Your puppy will happier with the experience, and less resistant to your future efforts. He will be looking forward to them instead.

Your dog will be easier to train if you are careful to avoid letting him learn bad habits to begin with. You and he will find it much easier to learn how do the right thing than unlearn the wrong. If an owner feels strongly that their pet should not beg for food off the table, it is important that he or she refrains from giving it to the dog in the first place.
