Puppy Training Tips To Tame Your Dog

Your dog is important to you, but so are your possessions. Unfortunately, your dog may not value the things you have and it may chew anything that may look like a tasty chew toy. This article contains smart tricks and tips which stop excessive chewing.

If you in the crate training phase of your training program, you can use a few techniques to speed it up. To entice a hesitant puppy into the crate, give it the incentive of a toy or bone inside, with the door shut. They will see and smell the bone and will want you to let them in there to get it. After he goes in the crate, reward him with praise and a treat.

Generous rewards are a key part of training. Reward your dog with some treats right after they obey an order. A dog quickly forgets his actions, so you must reward him immediately to reinforce his behaviors.

Establish a calm environment when you enter a room that your dog is in. It is okay to have play time, but when you enter a room your dog should be calm. Calmly enter the house and ignoring your dog until you are ready to interact with him.

Monitor your own behavior to ensure you aren't reinforcing your dog's negative behaviors by mistake. Never give your dog any treats or special attention for doing bad things. If your dog leaps on you when you return home and you wish to discourage this behavior, you must ignore him and go about your business. Even negative attention from you can cause the behavior to continue.

It is easy to train a roll with treats. The first step is a simple “lay” command. Now, with a treat in your palm, move your hand from one side of the dog's face to the other. Your dog is probably going to follow the treat in your hand with his nose, which means he will rollover his whole body. When they roll over, yell “roll over.” Keep doing this until they do it just with the command. This may take time, so don't become frustrated.

Refrain from using shock collars and similar training devices. They don't often work well and cost more than training methods which are conventional. These devices can stifle your dog's natural reactions and have negative effects on even good or acceptable behaviors. Using these techniques can have poor results.

To improve the efficiency of your training routine, make sure your dog eats and poops at around the same time every day. This will help you better understand when your dog needs to go outside, so he doesn't go on the carpet and ruin it. A schedule is a great way to train a dog how to hold in their needs till they can go out.

Training your dog is an important step in pet ownership. A well-behaved pet is less likely to injure himself and will also help you avoid the cost and frustration of household repairs. Using the tips you've just read will help you train your dog effectively.
