How To Train Your Dog And Have Fun Doing It

Does your new dog stress you out? You might need to spend a bit more time training your pet. Devoting time and patience to working with your dog now will yield wonderful payoffs throughout your time together. The following article will help you train your dog successfully.

Verbal corrections must be sharp and direct. Do not drag on in a rant to your dog about how bad they are. Say NO and redirect your dog to the desired behavior. The tone of your voice should let them know you are serious about the command you are making.

Make sure that you set a calm tone whenever you set foot in a room where your dog is. Playtime is great but sometimes it is just not appropriate. Don't acknowledge your dog when you enter the room. By doing this, you will be able to create a controlled environment in which you determine when and how play time begins.

Include plenty of physical activity in your dog's training routine. Just like humans, dogs can become bored easily. Bored dogs are harder to train. If your dog is fit and content, he will be much more likely to heed your instructions. Go for long walks and runs with your dog.

Make sure your teething puppy has a bunch of chew toys readily available to him, and keep other things he likes to chew on away from him. Give it one of his toys instead. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.

Do not allow your pet to become complacent in his training. Establish a clear set of rules and stick with it at all times. Often, people feel that they don't need to continue working with their dog after it has finished training. You can encourage your dog to adopt good habits. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.

When training your dog, reinforce positive behaviors in a positive way. Give your dog rewards every time he or she does something good. Don't ever hit your dog or yell at them! Not only does it not work, it encourages the belief by the dog that you have no idea what is going on. Stay consistent and use positive reinforcement.

To prevent the dog from biting people or furniture or otherwise causing damage, use a water bottle to spray him. This will help your dog understand that certain behaviors will not be tolerated. Your dog will learn to associate these behaviors with the water and will stop doing them.

Improving the dog's recall is key. You should always have a pet that will come back to your area immediately when they are called. Training your dog in small increments will help him to obey no matter what else is going on. Your dog's life may depend on recall some day, so do not skip this training, although it may be challenging to teach.

Taking time out to teach your dog properly will let you relax and enjoy your pet more. It may seem like your dog is destined to always misbehave, but by remaining dedicated, it is possible to achieve real results. You will be successful at training your dog when using this advice.
