Use These Tips To Teach Fido Some New Tricks

If you've never trained a dog before, it may seem like a daunting task. You can have information overload when you think of all the resources you have at your disposal. We've kept it simple, and have provided you with just a few of the important basics that will help you get started training your pup in the easiest way possible.

When you correct your dog verbally, those corrections should be short and focused on the behavior. There's no point in ranting at your dog. Just say no and direct them on what it is you desire for them to do. The tone of your voice should let them know you are serious about the command you are making.

Try not to reinforce bad behaviors from your dog. In basic terms, this means refusing to reward your dog, via attention or treats, for doing any action that you are trying to get them to stop doing. If the dog jumps at you, don't rub it's head.

Teaching dogs to roll over can be easy, provided some treats are on hand. You can have your dog sit or roll over. Next, hold a treat near the floor on one side of his head, slowly bring the treat up and over the dogs head to the other side. His nose will track that treat and his body will roll over. Each time he sways to one side, tell him to “roll over”. Keep doing this until the treat is no longer needed. This may take time, so don't become frustrated.

Your dog needs an hour or more of exercise every day along with any training or bathroom breaks. By allowing your dog ample play time, he will be more willing to pay attention during training time. A dog is happy when it gets it exercise and a happy dog follows orders.

It is important that you are firm with your dog for effective training. That said, love should prevail and yelling should never occur. This will help develop a strong bond during your training session.

When you speak to your dog in the correct tone of voice, this is the best way to train your dog. Command and praise should differ in tone, as should corrections. You need to talk to them in a firm tone of voice if you are correcting them.

Use a spray bottle filled with water to prevent your dog from doing things it should not do, such as scratching the furniture or biting. Then your dog learns some things aren't ok. Eventually, these behaviors will end and your dog will be well-behaved and play in the right manner.

Try applying these tips to solve your issues. Remember these tips as a guide to helping you train your dog, so both you and your dog will be very happy.
