The Right Way To Train Your Pup

Many people love having a pet in the family, and dogs are the most popular pet. Just like children, puppies are hard to keep from causing trouble and being mischievous. This useful article offers all types of advice for training your pet.

The more active your dog is, the healthier it will be. Dogs can get bored easily. When dogs feel bored, they are much more stubborn when it comes to training. Your dog will be more relaxed and willing to listen if he is exercised frequently. Go for a long walk with your dog.

Consistency is the key to puppy crate training. As soon as the puppy is out of the crate, let them have an opportunity to go outside and relieve themselves. This will teach your dog that he can wait until he gets out of the crate to relieve himself.

Your dog must realize that you are the leader of the pack. Your dog will not respect or obey you, unless you let him know that you are the boss. Always walk ahead of your dog when you go on walks, as this establishes that you hold a position of leadership.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. The first step is to teach your dog to lay. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog's head and move it around it's face to the other side. As the dog uses his nose to track the morsel, he will simultaneously roll his entire body over. As he is rolling over say, “roll over” and praise them immediately when they do. Do not let a lack of early success frustrate you. This takes repetition to nail down, but once you do, you will have the star dog on the block.

Shock Collars

Don't waste your money on cruel, ineffective gadgets such as shock collars. In many cases, they do not live up to the advertising expectations created, and are just more money than more effective and traditional training tools. Plus, using shock collars could discourage your dog in having good behavior. These techniques don't normally work.

To house train your pup, get him on a set feeding and potty schedule every day. By establishing a regular potty-time every day, you will get your dog in the habit of doing his business at the same time daily. When a dog has a schedule, they also learn the valuable skill of “holding it” until you take him for his next scheduled trip outside.

Your wanting to keep a clean house and your “puppy-love” shouldn't conflict. Maintaining a presentable home can be difficult if you own a dog that is rambunctious or destructive, but these things can easily be rectified with the proper training.
