Useful Tips For Successfully Training Your Dog

When some people adopt a dog, they have not really thought things through. Dogs need a commitment from you. In order for dogs to behave, they need a lot of good training. Whether you are a new pet owner or have a dedicated dog in your home, the ideas from this article should be of use to you as you work on a training program.

It takes a while for a dog to get comfortable in a crate. Don't take it too fast; introduce the dog at his own pace. Eventually they will become comfortable with the crate and you can then try to shut the door to the crate. When they allow the door to shut you can give them a treat through the wiring. Keep the gate closed for short periods of time, and work your way up to longer times. If the puppy gets too upset then you increased the time too much, too fast.

Establish a quiet environment when you go into a room your pet is in. Play time needs to be a distinctive time you initiate. Avoid acknowledging the dog upon your entry, and you can foster the sort of controlled environment necessary to good behavior.

Always ensure your dog is getting enough exercise. Dogs can get bored quite easily. A bored dog will try and find something interesting to do, and training is not usually interesting. Your dog is going to be a lot more attentive when it has received enough exercise. Take your dog on long walks or runs.

Do not tether two dogs close to each other. The chain from one dog could wrap around the second and the dogs could get hurt trying to get free. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

Train your dog on a regular basis to make sure he understands the rules of the house. Do not believe that just because you dog has graduated from obedience school that training is complete. Pets share a lot of the same habitual learning that humans do. This is why on-going training is important.

Teaching any dog how to roll over can be pretty easy. Make sure you've got a few tasty treats handy before beginning. Initially, try to get your dog to lay on the floor. Then hold one treat near his head and near the floor. Pull the treat over the dog until your hand is on the other side. They'll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. It will probably take multiple attempts, but you will be the talk of the town when the trick is learned.

It doesn't matter how long you've had your dog; you can utilize these tips to train any dog. You need to start working on correcting the bad behaviors as soon as possible so injury is avoided to your pet or others.
