If you have a natural-born obedient dog, then consider yourself lucky. Unfortunately, the majority of dogs require some form of training. This may be needed to prevent them from destroying your home or jumping on strangers. Utilize the following tips to help turn your dog into a well behaved family member.

There are a few tricks you can try when attempting to crate train a puppy or dog. If your dog does not want to go into the crate but one of his favorite toys inside and close the door. They will see and smell the bone and will want you to let them in there to get it. Give your dog some praise when he gets inside, so that he further associates being in the crate with good behavior.

Use control to acknowledge positive behavior while training. Give your dog a treat after they properly respond to your commands, but only if they are nice and calm. While you might be happy with this accomplishment, your excitement plus theirs can cause this situation to get out of control. Set a good example by rewarding them calmly.

Make sure your dog is eating a healthy diet. If the dog's diet is poor, it is not good for their health. This is not just bad for the dog's health; it may also play a role in their negative behavior. By making small changes to your dog's diet, you can alter their receptiveness to the training.

You must begin your relationship with the dog as the boss for any training to be effective. Your dog will neither obey nor respect you if he believes he is the leader of your household. On walks with your dog, you should lead him and not the other way around.

Treats are necessary when teaching a dog fancy tricks like rolling over. Begin by getting the dog to lay down. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog's head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. He should follow the treat with his nose, causing him to roll his whole body over. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Don't get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he'll be the star of the dog park!
