The key to successful crate training with a new canine is making sure they understand that it is their home. You should put their food in the cage and leave the door open if it is time for them to eat. They will think of their crate as a happy place.

Give your puppy time to be okay with a crate by taking the training one small step at a time. Eventually they will become comfortable with the crate and you can then try to shut the door to the crate. When they allow the door to shut you can give them a treat through the wiring. Use small increments of time, and build them up as your puppy or dog becomes more relaxed with the process. Freaking out your dog is a sign that you need to slow down.

Spend just the right amount of time training your dog, and do not wear it out. Start out training for just a few minutes each day and work up to half an hour or so over time. Know when your dog does not pay attention when you are training it.

The rule of thumb with puppies and house training is to remember: what is eaten will pass. Feed your puppy three times regularly each day. You can then schedule your walks at the right times to prevent unwanted accidents.

Select an appropriately sized crate to foster solid crate training results. Puppies grow up quickly. Choose a large enough crate to offer extra space beyond your dog's dimensions. At full size your dog should be able to move around without feeling too constricted.

Teach your dog all of the newest training methods to keep him in line. A lot of times owners thing training is a one time event. Pets are creatures of habit, and they need to constantly be taught new things. This shows that you need to do periodic refreshers so that your dog continues to follow the rules.

Teaching dogs to roll over can be easy, provided some treats are on hand. The first step is a simple “lay” command. The next step is to hold a treat close to the floor by the dog's head then continue to move the treat over his head until you reach the other side. They'll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command. You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. Never become frustrated if it does not happen right away. Once he does learn how, he will be a celebrity among other dogs.

As you can see, pets are trained for many different reasons. Most dogs try to please their owners and this is especially true of dogs that are well-trained. The tips listed above should help you find the best way to curb problems with your pooch.
