Check Out These Expert Dog Training Tips!

You had dreams of your dog being as smart and kind as Benji, but sometimes it feels as if he is more like a hell-hound. The good news is that, with just a bit of basic training, your dog can become better behaved within just a short amount of time.

While training your puppy or dog to use a crate, introduce him to new concepts slowly and gradually, so he is able to adjust to the changes without feeling stressed. As soon as they start to feel comfortable in the crate when the door is open, try closing the gate and have them eat inside. Begin by leaving the dog in the crate for about ten seconds, then increase that time by small increments. If they become upset, you are moving too fast.

Teething Pain

In an effort to alleviate your puppy's teething pain, give him plenty of chew toys. You also need to try to have other items he might chew on out of his reach. You need to replace that with a designated chew toy. A wet frozen washcloth is great for a puppy, who has teething pain, to chew on.

It's important to avoid inadvertently encouraging inappropriate behavior if you want your dog to learn. Never give your dog any treats or special attention for doing bad things. If the dog jumps at you, don't rub it's head.

When it's time to introduce house training to your dog, put him on a consistent schedule of eating and elimination. This gives both you and the dog a heads up as to when they need to go outside, and you can make sure that happens before they make a mess indoors. Having a regular schedule will help your dog know that a potty break will be coming, and he will hold learn to hold his bathroom urges until that time.

Begin the training your dog process with a simple task. This will give them instant success and serve as a building block for your training regimen. You'll see positive results as you train.

Every day, try to allow your pet to have an hour or so of exercise. This is on top of regular training lessons and restroom breaks. When your dog is worn out, his behavior will be better. Dogs that exercise are happier and more responsive.

Use the same hand signal or voice command to get your dog's attention. Use his or her name when giving a command. This will get his attention so he knows to follow the command. Dogs will respond instantly when their name is called if they know they are going to be rewarded.

Using various voice tones for various purposes is a great way to train a dog. Your commands, praise, and scoldings should have different tones so that your dog can distinguish between them. Commands should be firm yet sharp, whereas corrections require a louder tone. Natural voicing is good for praise and reinforcement.

Avoid using punishment as part of your training routine. Try to make every attempt to prevent any bad behavior before it happens, but if misbehavior happens, then show him what you wanted him to do. A very big part of training is establishing a good working relationship with your dog.

Dog owners are usually thrilled at the almost immediate results they obtain by implementing some basic training techniques into their lives. If you feel like you are having a hard time developing a relationship with your puppy, you should try applying these tips.
