Check Out These Simple Puppy Training Ideas

You and your puppy will be so much happier if it is fully trained. When you are consistent with your dog, he knows what to expect. Once your dog is trained, you'll feel more comfortable leaving him inside the house alone, having visitors over with him around and taking him with you out in public. Even though it may be a bit stressful at the time, once it is trained and has learned it manners and a few tricks, you will see that it was well worth the time investment.

Do not tie a couple of dogs closely together. Doing so could cause injuries to the dogs if they become entangled in the chains and attempt to free themselves. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

Choose a crate that fits your dog properly and use it to crate train them. Keep in mind that your puppy will eventually grow into a bigger dog. Choose a crate that is a good enough size for an adult for when your puppy grows. Your dog should have ample space to turn around inside the crate, as well as lay comfortably.

Refrain from using extreme devices for training your dog, such as a shock collar. Most of the time these don't function as they should and can cost quite a bit of money. They can also discourage good behaviors as they inhibit your dog's behavior too much. This kind of approach often ends in disaster.

Pick a recognizable phrase to verbalize to your puppy during house training. Whenever the dog is taken out, use the term you have chosen to refer to the process of relieving him or herself, and the pet will make a mental link between going outside and doing just that.

During the earliest days of training your pet, stick with simple directives. You will have the rush of seeing quick results, but the dog will gain a basic understanding of what good behavior means. This helps you get better results.

Keep your sessions short to accommodate a short attention span. A long, uninterrupted training period is going to exhaust your dog's attention. Keep sessions to a minimum at first. Target 10 minute sessions for increased success.

In addition to regular walks and puppy training sessions, you should make time to let your dog exercise for at least one hour every day. Your training will be easier and more effective if your dog gets good daily exercise. A dog that's well exercised is a responsive and content dog.

It is important that you teach your dog proper behaviors from day one. The sooner you start training the dog the better, because they have not learned bad habits that you will have to correct. Giving your dog scraps from the table is just training the dog that begging gets results, so don't do it!

Training your dog teaches both you and the pet what each can expect out of the other. It sets rules and boundaries that makes the dog safer, happier and more of a joy to be around. Always reinforce everything you have taught your dog. Always keep a close eye out and do not hesitate to enforce proper punishment on any violations of the designated rules. Once your dog gets the training basics under his collar, you will not be limited in what you can achieve together.
