Cool Tips For Successful Puppy Training

If you lucked out and got a dog that is naturally obedient then good for you, however if you are like most people, you could use a little help when it comes to training your dog. You should use the tips from this article to keep your dog under control and train it properly.

If you are attempting to crate train your dog, remember that it is a multi-step process. Allow them to feel comfortable in their crate by closing the door and feeding them treats while praising them. Start off only putting them inside for 10 seconds, and when they seem okay with that, slowly increase the time they are inside. If your puppy gets upset, then you may need to slow down and have more patience with them.

Spend just the right amount of time training your dog, and do not wear it out. Start with a short session and gradually add more time to it. This will give you a good idea of when to put more effort into your training session.

Keep your dog on a healthy diet. An unhealthy diet can have several negative effects on your dog. This is not just bad for the dog's health; it may also play a role in their negative behavior. Something as simple as improving their diet can sometimes have a huge impact on how receptive they are to training.

Always be ready with dog treats. The treat helps your dog to know that you think he has done well. Doing so makes your dog learn what he can and can't do.

When approaching a dog you've never met, approach them slowly and offer them the back of a hand to smell. This allows the dog to get used to your scent and makes him much more likely to trust you. After the dog knows your scent, he is unlikely to fear you and may be more willing to heed your command.

Positive reinforcement is the preferred training method for dogs. Praise the dog with petting, upbeat words and the occasional treat when he does something right. Don't yell and/or hit your dog. This makes the dog think you are imbalanced. Instead, show your dog what you expect and reward his obedience.

Teaching a puppy their name is one of the first steps to undertake and creates a lasting bond. You will want to use his name quite frequently, so he learns it and will come to you when you use it. These are the commands your dog should learn before anything else. By setting aside some special time for you and your puppy, you will give him the opportunity to get to know you, as well as trust you. When you set this trust early on, the puppy will be more open to the next steps in training.

Even the worst dogs can learn better behavior. Most dogs can be trained with a proper technique and a little perseverance. After reading this article, you should be able to make training your dog the easiest experience possible.
