Do Not Let Your Rowdy Pup Rule Your Life

Commands and corrections should be short and straight to the point. Yelling and screaming at your dog is counterproductive. Just say no, then show it what to do instead. Let your dog know that if you raise your voice they need to pay attention.

Understand your dogs position, to reduce any tension that you may have towards them. Imagine the world like they do and that can provide you with a fresh perspective on training.

Training Process

Begin the canine training process with a simple task. This will help you to see the progress you are making, regardless of how small or slow it is. It will also ensure that your dog truly comprehends each step of the training process. This gives you greater results when training.

Among the initial commands a dog should learn is “leave it,” which instructs the dog to drop whatever it has and step away from it. “Leave it” can prevent furniture chewing, save valuable objects from being destroyed and save your dog from consuming dangerous and/or poisonous substances.

When training your dog, keep track of time during each session. By spending too long on any single thing, your dog will likely become very bored and antsy. This is why you need to limit the time of your training sessions to around 10 minutes.

Maintain short training sessions. Since dogs have a tough time paying attention, you do not want to draw out the process. If you desire to do a lot more training, be sure to give your dog breaks in between training sessions.

A good way to reduce the level of barking come from your dog, is to immerse them in their barking triggers so that they get used to them. It might be something they hear or being exposed to people. This will help your dog understand that barking is unnecessary.

Identify a single word that you will use as a no-bark command. The next time your dog barks, let him see a treat and give the order for him to be quiet; repeat this until your dog stops barking. Once your dog has stopped barking, you can award it with a treat. By consistently repeating this, your dog will be quiet because he wants the treat.

Always avoid offering your pet a reward for bad behavior in the hopes of snuffing out an undesirable action or tendency. When this happens, you are teaching your dog that he is boss. This includes things like treating to avoid barking.

It is critical that you teach your dog the difference between correct and incorrect behaviors. Doing this involves setting firm boundaries for acceptable behavior which all family members are willing to enforce. It will instantly undo all of your hard work!
