Dog Training Is Easy With This Advice

Even if you thought the dog you brought home was a perfect angel, it's not uncommon to find some disastrous behavioral problems with a new puppy. With some training, you can have a well behaved pet.

Try to think like your dog. Frustration is easy during dog training. Understand your dogs position, to reduce any tension that you may have towards them. Looking at the world through their eyes could give you new insights about training them.

Your dog needs to learn good feeding habits, and this is best accomplished with a clear routine. Feed your dog at the same time everyday and giving your dog fifteen minutes to eat will help your dog remember when it is time to eat. Your dog will eat their food in the time that you have alloted.

Do not tie more than one dog in the same area. They could tangle the chains in such a way so that one or both of the dogs are stuck or injured. Becoming wrapped up could also cause death if one of the dogs gets so tangled and wrapped up his airway closes.

Use the same command for the behavior you want him to demonstrate. Start commands by using his name. Get his attention with his name and then follow that with what you want him to do. Dogs listen for their name because they know it means you will say something else.

If you try to fit too much training in all at once, your puppy will get bored or overwhelmed. A puppy only has short bursts of energy and doesn't have a long attention; you've got to keep your training sessions positive and short. If you try to do too much too fast, he will associated it as a negative experience and will resist in the future.

It is very important to train your dog early enough to head off the development of bad behavior. You will have much better success if you teach a dog properly early on, instead of attempting to break negative behaviors later in their life. If an owner feels strongly that their pet should not beg for food off the table, it is important that he or she refrains from giving it to the dog in the first place.

A good tip is to make sure you are aware if other dogs are present when you are walking your dog. It's not always the owner that is responsible for a dog being aggressive. If you encounter an antisocial or aggressive animal, make sure your dog stays away from it.

When leash-training your dog, keep some slack in the leash. Dogs like to explore new places when they are out on a walk. Their eagerness and energy may cause them to pull on the leash. Smart pet owners will make sure the pet walks on a leash with some slack to it.

When you begin training your dog, do not give him a treat or reward just to make him stop misbehaving. The dog will only learn that it is the boss. For instance, avoid giving treats to calm a barking dog.

By being consistent in toilet training, you dog will learn to wait until he is outside to relieve himself. Be sure to take your puppy out for scheduled, hourly potty breaks when you're home. When the dog relieves himself outside, give him praise. Never scold your dog for going in the house. He doesn't know better yet and punishment would serve no purpose. Always take the dog out about 15 minutes after he eats or drinks anything, as well as every time he comes out of his crate.

Many dog owners are surprised to find that training your dog is a much easier and faster process than they had expected. If your dog is getting on your nerves, it's time to put the above tips to use.
