Keep your dog on a healthy diet. Too many table scraps can unbalance your dog's diet. It can not only damage their health, it can also influence their behavior. A simple improvement to their diet will work wonders in how a dog feels, and make it much easier for them to have a clear mind during training.

Your dog should always give you its attention when asked. Dogs learn by repetition so with continued training, your dog will immediately focus on what you are saying.

If you have to keep your dogs outside, never tie them up too close to one another. It is possible for the chains to become intertwined, and the animals can be hurt as they try to get free. If one dog is larger than the other, it could accidentally tangle the cord around the smaller dog's neck, causing it to become unable to breath, and possibly die.

A number of repetitions will be necessary before your dog will be able to master a new command. You might have to keep repeating something to a dog as much as fifty times for it to ‘click'. Being patient while trying the same task or command will allow your dog to understand it.

If you want your dog to follow the rules, keep training it, it needs to be refreshed! A lot of owners will train their dogs once and not conduct any refreshers. That's not a good idea, since animals and humans form and retain habits in a similar way. This shows that you need to do periodic refreshers so that your dog continues to follow the rules.

If you encounter a dog with whom you are not acquainted, you should do so slowly and with the back of a hand outstretched. This gives a dog a chance to become familiar with your personal scent, which engenders trust. Once the dog recognizes your scent, he will not be afraid of you and will be more likely to follow your commands.

To house train your pup, get him on a set feeding and potty schedule every day. Before the dog goes to the bathroom on your carpet, you will know when it has to go outside. Adhering to a schedule also helps the dog learn to wait until the proper time comes to go outside.

Avoid accidents if you want to housebreak your dog. Learn your dog's signals, so you can anticipate the need to go out. Some of the most common and obvious displays include whining, sniffing and pacing. If you see your dog doing this, take action immediately. Quickly leash your pet and lead him to an area where he can relieve himself. Give him praise when he eliminates correctly. Before long, he will be able to ask you to take him out.

If your dog likes to bark you need to be aware of why they are doing so. It could be a particular sound or it could be the experience of being in front of other animals or people. The dog must learn that they do not need to start barking when these things occur.

Once someone knows how to enforce positive abilities, dogs learn quickly. Dogs like to please their owners, and owners like to see dogs being obedient.
