When correcting your dog, be concise. Don't drag on and rant how your dog is bad. Just say no and show them the behavior you expect. Do not scream, but rather use a loud and firm voice so they understand that you are serious.

By training your dog, you are helping him to become a rule follower. Often, people feel that they don't need to continue working with their dog after it has finished training. That's not a good idea, since animals and humans form and retain habits in a similar way. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. The first step is to teach your dog to lay. Then, hold the treat over your dog's head and swipe it above and around his head, causing him to roll over. He should roll his body over while following the treat. As he rolls over say out loud, “roll over.” Repeat this until he rolls over with the command alone. Never become frustrated if it does not happen right away. Once he does learn how, he will be a celebrity among other dogs.

As your dog responds to his training, you can begin to allow him more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience can give dogs a great life. Just be cautious not to give too much freedom at once, as this may have a counter effect on your dog training.

In addition to regular walks and training your dog sessions, you should make time to let your dog exercise for at least one hour every day. Making sure that your dog gets enough exercise makes your training sessions a lot more effective and it will also encourage your dog to have good behavior. Dogs that exercise are happier and more responsive.
