Efficient And Effective Ways To Train Your Dog

Every dog needs to be trained. This article is designed to get you started on training your dog properly.

Crate training is very beneficial, but there can be difficulties that the following tips can help with. A dog is naturally hesitant about a crate at first. A way to get them interested is to put their favorite toy in the crate, then shut the door. They will see and smell the bone and will want you to let them in there to get it. Once in the crate, let them know they did a good job by praising them.

Question how your dog views things. It's easy to get irritated with them when they aren't learning the basics quickly or even at all. Do not give up! Switch things up by thinking like a dog. This allows you to gain more insight into what is most likely to work and what should be avoided.

A dog needs a healthy diet as much as a dog owner does. There are many reasons why bad diets are bad news for your pet. It can not only damage their health, it can also influence their behavior. Improving your dog's diet can make training him easier.

The rule of thumb with puppies and house training is to remember: what is eaten will pass. If you want your puppy to relieve himself with regularity, keep the diet regular too, like feeding him good food two or three times daily at consistent intervals. That way, you'll know when you need to take your doggie out to “go”.

Have frequent or as necessary mini-training sessions to reinforce and keep the rules fresh in your dog's mind. People think that just because their dog has been trained once, that is all they need. Pets are just like humans, in that they follow habitual routines. Make sure your dog has a regular routine.

Have a good treat ready for your dog when it completes something that you ask. You want them to know they did the right thing. This is a great way to make certain the dog grasps what is right and what is wrong.

Only train your pet with positive reinforcement methods. If you are happy with your dog, give him pets, happy words and the occasional treat. Don't yell and/or hit your dog. This teaches your dog nothing and will just show him that you do not know how to train him. Be positive, firm and consistent to get great results while you train your dog.

You have to train your dog not to bark when you don't want them to. Each time your dog barks, wave a treat in front of him and voice your command. You can then give it the treat. Enough repetitions will result in the dog associating the treat with the command and remaining quiet.

Getting your new puppy used to wearing a collar is the first step in leash training him. Your puppy should feel comfortable in it for walks but also for identification.

For enforcing proper behavior when training your dog, keep in mind your dog must be praised. Smile at your dog and provide it with treats to assist your dog in associated good behavior with positive rewards. Do not reward bad behavior; instead correct unwanted behaviors and praise when your dog responds correctly.

When you have an untrained dog, you risk both your sanity and your belongings. By taking to heart the advice contained here, you will be well on your way to training your dog in the skills he needs to be a well-mannered pup.
