Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Puppy Training

Lots of people decide on adopting a dog without actually thinking about the consequences. Dogs need a lot of attention, care, and commitment from their owners. An untrained dog will misbehave and cause trouble in your household. Use the tips in the following article to train your dog.

If you want to teach your pet to use a crate, first try these simple tricks. If your puppy doesn't like being in his crate, put a dog treat or chew bone in it and close the door to keep him out. The dog will smell the bone and want to go racing into the crate to eat it. Once in the crate, let them know they did a good job by praising them.

Make sure that you use a gradual process when training your dog. Start with a short session and gradually add more time to it. Observe when your dog starts to stop paying attention during the session.

Ensure your dogs are active and getting a lot of exercises. Boredom often befalls an inactive dog, or he may find himself in a “mutt rut” with a dull and listless routine. A bored dog is very difficult to train. Your dog will pay better attention to commands, as well as play with you more, when he has been exercised properly. Bring your dog along when you walk or jog.

Give your puppy some toys to chew on so they do not hurt while teething, keep other things they might want to chew on out of their reach! Take it away, and give him a chew toy. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.

Teaching a dog how to roll over isn't too hard with a few treats in your hand. Firstly, have the dog lie down. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog's head and move it around it's face to the other side. His nose will track that treat and his body will roll over. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Do not let a lack of early success frustrate you. This takes repetition to nail down, but once you do, you will have the star dog on the block.

Decide on a single phrase that you can say when house training your puppy, and stick with it every time. Whenever the dog is taken out, use the term you have chosen to refer to the process of relieving him or herself, and the pet will make a mental link between going outside and doing just that.

Make sure food and outside time are scheduled to help break your dog into being an inside dog. Then you will be aware when your dog needs to go outside to use the bathroom. Adhering to a schedule also helps the dog learn to wait until the proper time comes to go outside.

It is still possible to train your pet if you have owned the animal for a long time. With the advice from this article, you can begin to train your dog to be the pet you've always wanted. You should train him as soon as you can to avoid any risk of the dog unintentionally hurting someone.
