Excellent Tips For Anyone Training A Dog

For a beginner, canine training can sometimes be intimidating. You can easily be lead to information overload because of all of the resources available to new trainers. Get started gradually by reviewing the following tips and seeing how well they work with your dog.

When correcting your dog verbally, use sharp, short, concise commands. Don't scream and yell and throw a fit. Say no and let them know what you would rather have them do. It is also important to have good volume to your commands so that your dog understands that you are serious.

Make sure you feed your dog healthy food. Your dog will not benefit from a poor diet. Without proper nutrition, your dog can suffer both physically and behaviorally. By making small changes to your dog's diet, you can alter their receptiveness to the training.

Stay very consistent and persistent when starting your crate training regimen. When your puppy gets out of its crate he will need to relieve himself. As he gets older, he will gain greater control of his bodily functions, making it easier to control himself.

When training, find a verbal clue your pet can understand so they will know exactly when to do as you say. Words like “yes” could be an effective way of communicating to your dog that he has done something you are pleased about.

If your dog jumps when you don't want him to, gently squeeze his paws. This does not hurt the dog if you do it lightly, but it is an uncomfortable feeling for them. Soon your dog will believe that this will happen every time he jumps up and will stop jumping up.

Try to incorporate play into your training sessions with your dog. It builds a strong bond between the two of you and encourages them to want to please you. Training can be a fun experience, however, getting some enjoyment for yourself and the dog through play is a good thing.

Make sure that your dog will not need to engage in any type of response when you deny him. You need to look for positive ways to reinforce your commands when you train your dog. “No” is negative and doesn't give your dog a real command he can follow. Because no two dogs are the same, the training you use should work with their needs.

Teach your puppy his name when you first start training him, as this creates a bond between the two of you. Use his name as often as possible, and help him learn to come when you call him by it. There is no other word your puppy should be taught first. Spend lots of time with your dog, so it gets to know you and understands that you are to be trusted. This way, you will find future training to be infinitely easier.

Use a spray bottle filled with water to prevent your dog from doing things it should not do, such as scratching the furniture or biting. This teaches them that these behaviors are unacceptable. Eventually, they won't do these behaviors anymore and your dog will be obedient and playful.

This article should have given you some valuable information for training your dog. If you keep these tips in the back of your mind when it's time to train your dog, it will kick-start your training into an ultra-efficient routine.
