Great Tips To Help Train Your Dog

Your dog can be trained and programmed like a remote control. The remote has the capability to work properly, but it needs to be programmed to work with your television. All dogs have the ability to be trained, but it is necessary to go about the task properly to attain the desired results.

Keep your dog calm when you enter the room. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. When you ignore the dog on entry, they shouldn't bother you about playing.

Dogs have a short attention span and you will have to attract his attention. Eventually, you will be able to ensure that your dog is more focused on you and your commands than other distractions.

Decide on a single phrase that you can say when house training your puppy, and stick with it every time. Tell the dog a phrase, like “go potty!”, whenever you go outside to help your dog keep the goal of going outside in mind.

Anytime your dog does something good, make sure you reward him. It is important for the dog to realize when he exhibits the proper behavior in response to your commands. Rewarding good behavior and not bad behavior will help your dog to learn the difference between the two.

Teach your pet the proper way to walk on a leash. Think of the leash as a safety requirement.

As you train the dog, patience is essential. This will keep you and your puppy from becoming frustrated or angry. It takes time for your dog to learn what is expected from him. Understand that your dog wants your approval and is doing his best to earn it.

Train your dog to stop barking with a treat. As the dog begins barking, display a treat and then repeat your order until the barking ceases. Once your dog has stopped barking, you can award it with a treat. If you continue to repeat this, the dog will figure out that it gets a treat if it is quiet when you say so.

Make sure you're aware of any other dogs in the area when walking your dog. Not all dogs are friendly, and not all owners are responsible. Take care to avoid coming into contact with any animal that appears overly aggressive or antisocial.

To enforce good behavior when training your dog, remember to praise him regularly. Be positive, excited and provide treats. Do not reward unwanted behavior.

Is your pooch eating a well-balanced diet? Like kids, dogs can also act out if they are not eating well. Think about altering the dog's diet to give him extra energy that lasts the entire day. Consult your veterinarian about any special dietary needs that your dog might require.

Once you can bring out a dog's ability to be trained, it is just a matter of consistently practicing the techniques. As much as the owner will be pleased with what the dog has learned, the dog will also be happy.
