Having A Dog That Will Listen To You Is Important

You'll always remember the day your puppy came home with you. The joy can slowly shift into frustration in the weeks after that, though! You may start to wonder if you made the right decision if things get out of hand. However, you can get that initial joy back by properly training your dog. In this article we're going to go over some of the tips of the trade in training man's best friend.

A new dog needs to feel safe and happy in their crate during training. To help your puppy feel at home, place your puppy's food dish inside the crate. This will create a good association between the crate and their food.

Try to see things from your dog's perspective. Training your dog can get extremely frustrating at times, especially when your dog isn't learning commands that you think are very simple. Instead of completely giving up, consider looking at it from their perspective. This allows you to gain more insight into what is most likely to work and what should be avoided.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. The first step is to teach your dog to lay. Next, you must hold one treat close to the floor off to one side of their head and slowly bring it up and over the dog's head to the opposite side. His nose will follow the treat, naturally making him roll over. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command. You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. Don't get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he'll be the star of the dog park!

Shock collars are not a good idea. They often don't function as well as advertised and are far more expensive than conventional training methods. They can also discourage good behaviors as they inhibit your dog's behavior too much. Generally, techniques such as these actually produce negative results.

Decide on a specific command phrase for your pup during house training. When you take your puppy outside, say “go potty” to them so they will eventually associate the phrase with going to the bathroom outside.

Always be ready with dog treats. You want them to know they did the right thing. This will teach your dog what behavior is correct and expected.

Training your dog is built upon love, patience, and treats. The tips we have provided will get you and your pup started on the road to a wonderful, loving relationship for many years. Your dog won't be trained overnight, but with patience and persistence, you will have a trained dog before you know it.
