Help Your Dog Be The Pet You Want Him To Be

Be sure you are walking your dog and not the other way around! This article contains the critical knowledge you need for training your dog.

You should have a specific feeding pattern for your dog. Your dog should be fed at the same time everyday and they should only have a certain amount of time to eat. Soon, your pet will finish the meal before you're ready to remove its dish.

When crate training a young puppy you must be consistent. Give the puppy consistent opportunities to relieve himself every time you let him out. Doing so helps him learn when it is okay to go to the bathroom.

It is important to have an appropriately sized dog crate. Remember, puppies grow up. Find a crate big enough for your adult dog. Don't restrict the size so much so that the dog cannot lie or turn easily.

If your dog wants to jump you should squeeze their paws when they do so, they will know that they shouldn't do that. It is uncomfortable but a non-painful experience for the dog. They should learn to stop jumping because they don't like the reaction they get.

Your dog's training should never end. Your dog doesn't stop learning just because it's no longer a puppy. You have to train your dog to keep up the good work so it never reverts to bad habits.

To put a halt on barking, teach your pup to obey a basic command. When your dog barks, show them a treat and repeat the order, for instance, ‘be quiet' until it stops barking. Once your dog has stopped barking, you can award it with a treat. This positive reinforcement will help to get your dog to learn.

Make sure your dog's training is consistent. When you have a whole family in the house, they should all use the same training techniques. When your dog only needs to understand a single set of directions, it is easier to learn and adopt the desired behaviors.

Praise is just as important as rewards when you are training your dog. Smile often and keep treats handy to ensure that the positive reinforcement is quick and consistent. It is important that you avoid offering rewards to stop an undesirable behavior, however, as this may create an inappropriate connection in the dog's mind.

Does your pet strain and pull every time you put him on a leash? This issue is often faced by dog owners, but is quite easy to fix. Go down to your local pet supply store to acquire a harness. It will help cut down on the pulling that your dog does.

Training your dog can be much easier if you use a crate. In order to make the crate training more effective, you need to let the dog out regularly, and try to follow a consistent schedule. Given time, a crate trained dog is much less likely to have accidents inside.

Remember that you are in charge of your dog. You should always be leading the way, not vice-versa. Use a short leash and keep your dog close to your side, pulling it back when it begins to lead and telling it to heel. Keep in mind that you are in charge!

If you lack training your dog knowledge, it may be that you are feeling quite frustrated with your pet. Properly armed with knowledge, you can now train the perfect dog.
