How To Break Bad Habits In Your Canine With Training

Training your dog can feel overwhelming if you haven't attempted it before. You can have information overload when you think of all the resources you have at your disposal. Get started gradually by reviewing the following tips and seeing how well they work with your dog.

Make sure your teething puppy has a bunch of chew toys readily available to him, and keep other things he likes to chew on away from him. Replace the tasty item you do not want chewed with a designated chew toy. In cases where your puppy is suffering a great deal of pain, try soaking a washcloth in water and freezing it as a numbing chew toy.

It is easy to train a roll with treats. First, place your dog in the “down” position. Then, position a treat near the floor to one side of him, raise it up and move it over to the opposite side. This will cause your dog to use their nose to follow the treat. As a result, your dog will roll over. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Be patient with him when you are teaching this because once he learns it, he can be quite the show-off amongst your friends.

Don't waste your money on expensive training products, such as shock collars. They are both expensive and unlikely to work properly. They can cause your dog to be confused about all their behaviors. This kind of approach often ends in disaster.

When you meet an unfamiliar dog, you should go up to him slowly and allow him to sniff your hand. This gives the dog a chance to become accustomed to your personal scent and shows him you mean no harm. The dog will no longer be afraid after he is able to recongnize the scent and may begin to follow commands.

Your dog should exercise a minimum of one hour per day. Also, ensure that you regularly train your dog and take him or her out for bathroom breaks. Your training will be easier and more effective if your dog gets good daily exercise. Fit dogs are happy and responsive to you.

Training Sessions

Never allow your training sessions to run on for too long. Dogs don't have long attention spans so make sure that your training sessions are kept short. If you want to train them more, let your dog take a break to get some energy out.

Before you train your puppy, teach him his name and bond with him. Repeat his name regularly, so he will learn to come to you when he hears it. These are the preliminary words that your dog need to know. Spending lots of time will create a strong bond with your puppy, and will lead to unbreakable trust. In this way, he will be more receptive to advanced training later.

Use your dog's name often to get and keep his attention. Do this consistently during the first several weeks to get your dog to pay attention to you. The name should be short and unique, so that he does not confuse it with every day language.

Utilizing the fore-mentioned tips can enable you to curb common training problems and misconceptions. Apply these suggestions to train your dog in a healthy and happy way for the both of you.
