How To Create A Canine Good Citizen

Every dog requires training to some extent in order to learn what to do and of course, what not to do. This article can help you train your dog.

Have a good reward system when training your dog. Unless you offer treats appropriately and frequently, it's almost impossible to keep him motivated and interested. If you don't do it at the correct time, the dog may become confused about the reward.

Specific feeding habits should be established with your dog. Teaching your dog to realize that when you place its food bowl down, it will be removed within 10-15 minutes, will help it understand that there is a feeding schedule to stick to. This will set a quality schedule for your dog so that they are ready for all meals.

Teething is painful, and providing chew toys helps alleviate the pain. Keep items that are potentially more painful out of reach. You should replace the object with a chew toy as soon as this occurs so your dog understands what is okay to chew on. A wet frozen washcloth is great for a puppy, who has teething pain, to chew on.

Dogs can have a one-track mind and remain focused on one thing until you break the dog out of it. With frequent practice, your dog will begin to focus on you and the signals you are giving him instead of other distractions.

Continuously maintain all training that you have done with your dog, and consider adding new behaviors as you go. Many times, owners feel that since their animals have gone through canine training, they can just forget about it. But dogs can become complacent just like their human counterparts. It's important to be consistent with the rules for your dog.

With the right encouragement, most dogs can learn to roll over pretty quickly. Begin by getting the dog to lay down. Then, position a treat near the floor to one side of him, raise it up and move it over to the opposite side. He should roll his body over while following the treat. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command. You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. It will take some work, but keep on trying!

Dogs that are not trained will lower the quality of your life and your home. Apply the advice this article has given to you, and you will have the skills that you need to train your dog correctly.
