Taking on the task of training your dog might feel intimidating if you have never tried it before. It can easily lead to an overload of information since so many resources exist on the subject. Follow these tips to gain a better understanding of dog training.

It takes a while for a dog to get comfortable in a crate. Don't take it too fast; introduce the dog at his own pace. Once your dog seems to have acclimated to the crate itself, close the gate and feeding him through it. Start off with small periods, for example 10 seconds or so, and gradually increase crate time. If the puppy becomes upset, you may be progressing too quickly.

Make sure you feed your dog healthy food. The effects a bad diet has on your dog extend further than you might think. Not only is it unhealthy, it can affect the way they behave. Something as easy as proper nutrition can make a dog more obedient.

As you train your dog, be sure to create verbal cues to make your pet know that he is doing what you want it to do. Even a simple monosyllabic spoken ‘yes' can help the dog to connect the desired behavior with the imminent reward.

By training your dog, you are helping him to become a rule follower. Do not assume that your dog will remember his training all his life. Dogs forget things just like humans do; however, and the dog will lose discipline without practice. This is why you must make sure that you have a rule system that is strict for your dog.

Training your dog to start rolling over is easy, but be sure to have some treats. The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog's head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. As the dog uses his nose to track the morsel, he will simultaneously roll his entire body over. Be sure to say ROLL OVER as your dog is rolling. Eventually, he will learn to perform the trick upon command. Never become frustrated if it does not happen right away. Once he does learn how, he will be a celebrity among other dogs.

Teaching a dog to walk correctly while on its leash is important. This helps keep both you and your dog safe when going on walks.

Hopefully, you have learned something useful and new from this article. Remember these tips as a guide to helping you train your dog, so both you and your dog will be very happy.
