How To Get The Kids Involved In Training The New Dog

When you brought home your dog you were expecting Lassie, but sometimes it feels like you brought Cujo home instead. Fortunately for you, it only takes a little fundamental training to shape up your dog's behavior in the near future.

There are a few tricks you can try when attempting to crate train a puppy or dog. If they shy away from the crate, try placing a chew bone and shutting its gate when they are not inside. They will want to get to the bone, which means going into the crate. Once they enter the crate, be sure to praise them to show that what they did was good.

Timing is critical during training your dog, and you must spend sufficient time on training without doing too much. Gradually increase the amount of time you spend training them each session. Notice when your dog begins getting distracted during a training session.

Create a calm environment whenever you enter the room the dog is in. Play time is beneficial to your dog, however, you need to teach your dog to be calm as you enter any room. Do not acknowledge the animal when you enter and by doing so, you create a controlled atmosphere in which you decide how and when play time begins.

If your dog wants to jump you should squeeze their paws when they do so, they will know that they shouldn't do that. The dog will not experience pain, but just a brief discomfort. They should learn to stop jumping because they don't like the reaction they get.

Exercise your dog at least an hour everyday in addition to its regular potty breaks outside. When your dog gets adequate exercise, he can be trained more effectively and it can bring out your dog's good behavior. If your pet can exercise regularly and be active, he will be far more happy and responsive.

You can keep a dog from barking by teaching it an order that means they should be silent. As the dog begins barking, display a treat and then repeat your order until the barking ceases. Only give them the treat when they obey the command. If you do this a lot of times your dog will know if they are not barking they will get a treat.

When housebreaking your puppy, accidents will happen. Get rid of accidents immediately to improve training efficiency. Carpets are known to trap the smell of urine and encourage the dog to return to that spot for further marking. There are a wide variety of odor control products designed to address just this situation, so head to the pet shop and ask about them.

Most dog owners are surprised at how simple it is to include canine training routines into their lifestyle and how fast they see results. So if your relationship with your pooch is feeling a bit strained, try out some of these tips.
