Your dog needs to be active frequently. Dogs get bored just as easily as children. A bored dog is very difficult to train. Your dog needs proper exercise to function to his highest potential. Bring your dog along when you walk or jog.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn't tempted to chew other things that aren't okay to chew. The right chew toys should be given to the pup immediately. Teething can cause puppies significant pain. Give them relief by letting them chew on a washcloth that is wet and frozen.

You will have to repeat commands several times before your dog learns it. You might have to keep repeating something to a dog as much as fifty times for it to ‘click'. Being patient while trying the same task or command will allow your dog to understand it.

As your dog progresses, you won't need to exert so much control. You will find your dog to be more obedient and your dog will be happier. Like most things, too much freedom can be counterproductive, so exercise caution with certain liberties.

When getting closer to a dog, move slowly and let the dog smell your hand. Dogs need to familiarize themselves with the smell before they can trust you. Once the dog recognizes your scent, he will not be afraid of you and will be more likely to follow your commands.

Training should begin with the easier commands. Not only does this give you a feeling of satisfaction in your success, but your dog also learns about what an acceptable behavior is. This provides you with greater results throughout the training.

When you discipline your dog, your tone is an important factor. Dogs tend to be well in tune with how their trainers are feeling. Use a stern voice when you are correcting your dog.

While you are in the process of housebreaking your puppy, expect the occasional accident to occur. When accident do happen, clean them up rapidly and thoroughly. Urine and feces scents can attack to the fibers of your carpet, which will lead to your dog repeatedly using the bathroom in that spot. Buy a product specially designed to neutralize odors.

Aggressive Dog

You should always try to be aware of any other dogs when you are going for a walk with your dog. There are irresponsible dog owners and dogs who feel they need to be in charge to make up for this. This is a bad combination. If you happen upon an aggressive dog, walk away from the aggressive dog.

As already stated, dog training has many benefits. You are likely to enjoy the training more and more as it progresses. The outcome will be positive for both you and your dog.
