Put yourself in the dog's situation. Frustration may come quickly if your dog does not pick up your training of basic things quickly. Try to think the way your dog does. Looking at the world through their eyes could give you new insights about training them.

Dogs have great focus and can focus on one thing, ignoring everything else, until something breaks their attention. Eventually, you will be able to ensure that your dog is more focused on you and your commands than other distractions.

Teach your dog all of the newest training methods to keep him in line. Some dog owners make the mistake of thinking that once training has ended, no further action is required. It is a simple task to teach a dog how to roll over, just be sure to keep some dog treats handy! The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Next, hold the treat close to the floor on one side of the dog's head, and slowly bringing it upwards and over to the dog's other side. He'll follow your hand and roll over completely. Say “roll over” as you perform the maneuver. Don't get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he'll be the star of the dog park!

Stay away from high end training devices like shock collars. They may not work very well and are far too expensive. They can also discourage good behaviors as they inhibit your dog's behavior too much. These methods yield negative results.

When a dog jumps up on you, grab its paws with your hand and lightly squeeze to let them know that it is unacceptable behavior. It's uncomfortable, but not painful. Since it is so uncomfortable, they'll avoid jumping on people.

Be firm with your dog when training, for its own sake. This does not mean you should continually admonish your dog. Balance firmness with love for best results. This is a good way to establish a good relationship with your puppy.

You should do some research on the grooming of the dog breed you chose. Attention to your dogs grooming needs, whether it's a weekly thing, as some breeds require or less frequently, gives you time to build a good relationship with your dog. When the dog is well groomed, it is happy and healthy.

As with most things, and this goes with canine training as well, don't ever give up. You have to regularly enforce rules with your dog, so he won't unlearn what you have made it learn. Just as you need to keep feeding and sheltering your dog, training is a never-ending process.

It is vital for your pet to obey what you say. This article has some tips laid out for successful training. Training takes time and consistency so do not get discouraged if your dog does not pick things up as quickly as you want them to.
