Learning A Few Puppy Training Tips Will Help

Some people give their dogs away because of their bad behavior, but in most cases this can be avoided. Properly trained dogs are healthy and happy members of a family. A great dog can be yours; just read on.

Your dog will perform best on a healthy diet. Feeding your dog bad food is very bad for several different reasons. It can make your dog behave badly and is not good for their health. A proper diet can affect how well they react to training.

It is best to train your dog in a crate that is the right size. Keep in mind that puppies get bigger. You must be able to accommodate the growth your puppy will experience as he ages. A larger crate allows for continued comfort and happiness. Your dog should be able to easily turn around and sleep without being overly crowded.

Try not to reinforce bad behavior in your dog by accident. This means don't give your dog treats or attention for something he should not be doing. If the dog jumps at you, don't rub it's head.

You should always say commands in the same tone and volume. An authoritarian tone informs your dog he is expected to obey. In time, your dog will understand what you want regardless of which words you use.

Putting your dog on a regular schedule of feeding and walks will help to regulate his system, so he will be easier to house train. This gives both you and the dog a heads up as to when they need to go outside, and you can make sure that happens before they make a mess indoors. Following a schedule will also help your dog learn how to “hold it” until his next potty break.

Effective puppy training requires instilling good behaviors from day one. it is more difficult for your dog has to unlearn bad habits than it is to teach him good habits. To avoid a dog that begs for table scraps, never give it table food to begin with.

Keep track of how many treats used to reward your dog every day for a healthy diet. It's very easy to overlook how many treats you give your dog, especially during a training session, but they add up if you don't pay attention.

Praise is just as important as rewards when you are training your dog. Talk in a positive voice, smile and offer your dog some treats when it does something right. Just be sure you never reward your dog after a bad behavior.

When you're consistent, he can learn to hold it in. Spend plenty of time with him, and go outside with him once an hour. When the dog eliminates outside, offer it praise. Don't yell at your dog for having an accident. The dog is not aware that this is undesirable behavior, and scolding will not change that fact. It's better to teach your dog to expect to potty outside by taking him out a few minutes after meals or after being crated.

Challenging though it may be, you can have a dog who is obedient, loving and healthy. Train your pet often, but also shower him with affection, and you can meet his needs. The provided steps can help you do this and give you a lovable dog that you will be proud to have.
