Need Help Training Your Dog? Here Are Some Tips!

You may have thought you were going to be bringing a nice calm dog to your house, though in reality your dog is more like a wild, hyper animal! Do not despair. With some patience, and a little training, your unruly mutt can be better behaved in no time.

There are different tricks you can try when you are crate training your dog. A dog is naturally hesitant about a crate at first. A way to get them interested is to put their favorite toy in the crate, then shut the door. The dog will smell the bone and want to go racing into the crate to eat it. When he does, praise him for it so he knows it was a good thing to do.

When you correct your dog verbally, ensure your corrections are direct and short. Do not go on and on about how bad the dog is behaving. Inform them of your disapproval and move on. Also speak with authority so they understand you mean business.

Feeding Schedule

Establish feeding habits for your dog. Train your dog to understand that you are going to remove their food bowl upon fifteen minutes of feeding them. This will establish a feeding schedule for your dog. Your dog will soon become accustomed to his feeding schedule and eat quickly.

A puppy should have chew toys to get him through the teething pains. Keep other things out of his reach. Instead of allowing it to continue chewing on your important furniture or toys, provide a well-loved chew toy. Try a frozen washcloth to alleviate the pain of teething for your puppy.

Try to mistakenly avoid reinforcing any behaviors that are unwanted when doing training your dog. Thus, you must not reward the dog if it does something you are working to stop. This includes things like petting them when they jump on you at the door.

Do not ever use a shock collar to train your dog. They almost never work as advertised and they are expensive to boot. They can also discourage good behaviors as they inhibit your dog's behavior too much. These tools often do more harm than good.

Decide on a single phrase to use when housebreaking your new puppy. Each time you venture out for a bathroom trip, use this phrase to keep your dog focused on the task he came outside to accomplish.

As you progress with your dog's training, you should begin to give it more and more freedom. The right balance of training, obedience and freedom ensures your dog has an enjoyable life. Do not allow them freedom all at once, they might lose what they learned.

When you are training your doggy friend, use what is known as primary reinforcement. This means using a beloved item to reinforce positive behavior. Use things such as treats or petting your dog to reinforce good behavior. This lets your dog know how to earn something it wants.

Basic canine training is easily incorporated into daily routine providing for fast training results. If you feel like you and your dog are having a hard time, try some of this advice.
