When giving a command to your dog, you should always use the exact same kind of voice and the same volume. The dog will know you're telling them what to do that way. They will also know when you are being positive.

Make sure training has an element of fun incorporated into it. By playing games with your dog, a strong bond will develop between the two of you, which helps the dog respond in a positive manner during training. Training can be enjoyable, but you should still make time just to play with your pet.

Try to teach your dog good habits right away. Trying to change bad behaviors after the fact is far more difficult than teaching them the good ones right away. To avoid begging at the table, avoid giving the dog food off the table to begin with.

Every puppy in training will make some mistakes in the potty department. Make certain the accidents are cleaned up immediately, so your training efforts cans stay on course. Odor from feces or urine can stay in your carpet which will make your dog return to it when it wants to urinate. A pet shop in your area will carry products specifically for this problem.

Keep notice of dogs that are nearby when you are outside with your pet. You need to be well aware of any dogs that seem aggressive. If you come across a dog that seems aggressive avoid it.

You should be sure to respond positively when your dog does something good. Acting super excited can help your dog to understand that you are happy with their behavior. Do not give any rewards for negative behavior since your dog will thing the bad behavior is good as well.

Is your dog getting the food he needs? If your dog is not eating the right kind of diet, they might become inattentive, hyperactive or even sick. Your dog's diet should be adapted to its species and its age so your dog is full of energy. Also, speak with your vet to make sure that your dog is getting the proper nutritional content.

Your dog may be engaged in destructive chewing due to anxiety. Leave your dog safely crated with a tough nylon or hard rubber toy, and he will have something to work on until you come home.

If you want to take your dog to agility competitions, do some research on this discipline and make sure you get the best breed for these competitions. Most dogs can learn agility and join competitions, but border collies, Australian shepherds and Labs usually do best in these competitions.

Think of training your dog as an investment. A badly behaved dog can destroy your house and stress everyone in the family; soon no one will want him around. Apply these tips to plan how you are going to train your dog and turn him into a loved member of the family.
