Give your puppy time to be okay with a crate by taking the training one small step at a time. Once your puppy feels comfortable in the open crate, close the door and offer the dog a treat. Start off only putting them inside for 10 seconds, and when they seem okay with that, slowly increase the time they are inside. If they get upset, it's too fast.

When you correct your dog verbally, those corrections should be short and focused on the behavior. Do not go on and on about how bad the dog is behaving. Just say no and direct them on what it is you desire for them to do. Be sure your command tone of voice gets their attention and shows that you're serious.

Multiple repetitions will be necessary for a dog to learn new commands. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times before your dog remembers it. Using the exact same command and remain patient with them so that they can get it.

When potty training your pup, remember that whatever he eats must come out. You can promote consistency and regularity by feeding your pet on a firm schedule two or three times daily with only the highest quality of food. That way, you'll know when you need to take your doggie out to “go”.

When using a crate to train your dog, you'll want to make sure that you select the right size. Keep in mind that your puppy will eventually grow into a bigger dog. Pick a crate that will be of suitable size for the adult when the puppy matures. At full size your dog should be able to move around without feeling too constricted.

Making sure that your dog gets enough exercise makes your training sessions a lot more effective and it will also encourage your dog to have good behavior. Keep in mind that a dog that's been exercised regularly is happier and more responsive to your commands.

Your dog needs to learn what the word “no” means. Find some positive ways to enforce training when you train your dog. Using the word “no” will not help your dog learn that a behavior is unacceptable. Each dog has their own quirks.

In order for your training to be effective, you have to understand that you'll need to be firm. You want to avoid being strict all of the time. You need to find the right mixture of strictness and love. This will help improve the relationship between you and your dog.
