Puppy Training Tips Straight From The Experts

There are lots of benefits to dog training. A well behaved dog will lead to a happier life. The article below is full of great advice to help you get started on training your pooch. It can be a bonding opportunity instead of a time of struggle.

Chew Toys

Give them chew toys for pain relief while teething, and keep everything else out of reach. Give it one of his chew toys immediately. If your puppy is in a lot of pain due to teething, a frozen wet washcloth is ideal for him to chew on.

Dogs have a tendency to zone in on one particular thing until something else grabs their attention. Your dog can learn to focus less and less, except for your commands, by using repetition.

It is not difficult to teach a dog how to roll over, and having some treats on hand makes it easier. The dog has to lay down first. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog's head and move it around it's face to the other side. He should follow the treat with his nose, causing him to roll his whole body over. When he rolls over, you should say “roll over,” and repeat the process until the command is all he needs to do so. Be persistent and do not give up; it might take a while but will be worth it once they learn it.

When giving commands to your body, your tone and volume level should remain the same. This lets them know you're serious and that they must obey. Your dog needs to understand that there is a difference between the tone you use to discipline your dog from the tone you use to give an order.

Always be sure to have a reward or tasty morsel for your dog when he follows a command or learns something new. You want to teach your pooch that good behavior is beneficial. This is a good way to make your dog know the difference between a good and bad thing.

Teaching a dog to walk correctly while on its leash is important. Doing so is a matter of safety for both you and the dog when you take him for a walk.

When training your dog, remember to be patient. This ensures that you both do not get frustrated. Don't forget that dogs aim to please, however they often don't understand what you want.

During your training sessions, you should keep a close eye on the time. Dogs can quickly lose focus when you prolong activities. Try to keep the initial sessions limited to about 10 minutes.

Training Sessions

Maintain brief training sessions. Dogs don't have long attention spans so make sure that your training sessions are kept short. If you want to engage in additional training, allow the dog to have a break in order to get some exercise.

There are a lot of benefits to dog training. If you take the advice of this article, and apply what you have learned, you will find that dog training can be fun. You and your dog will enjoy learning how to work together and follow the rules.
