Raising A Happy And Well-Behaved Canine Companion

Dogs process information differently than do humans; do not make the mistake of presuming they do. If you believe your dog is thinking as a human, you will be disappointed. Read this article for some great ways to treat your new dog so that training can take place.

A healthy diet is important to the health and well-being of your dog. A bad diet is unhealthy for dogs for many reasons. Not only does it affect the dog's health, but it can have an impact on its behavior. By making small changes to your dog's diet, you can alter their receptiveness to the training.

Include plenty of physical activity in your dog's training routine. Dogs get bored just as easily as children. A bored dog is very difficult to train. Keeping your dog exercised and happy will help them pay attention more due to releasing all excess energy that often distracts them from your commands. Go on extended walks or runs with your dog on a regular basis.

To strengthen your training efforts, you can use a designated verbal command to help your animal understand what your expectations are and when they have been fulfilled. Using a positive word such as “yes” will fill the time between the performance of the desired behavior and the delivery of the reward.

Teaching a dog how to roll over isn't too hard with a few treats in your hand. Start by commanding the animal to lie down. Then, position a treat near the floor to one side of him, raise it up and move it over to the opposite side. He will follow the treat by rolling over. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Make sure you are patient because this is likely to take several attempts. However, your dog will eventually learn this command.

As your dog becomes increasingly more responsive to training, you can begin to give him more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience is a rewarding one. Just be careful that you don't give your dog too much freedom, as this can cause negative behavior.

When giving a command to your dog, you should always use the exact same kind of voice and the same volume. This lets the dog know you are serious. Good consistent tones also let your dog know when tones are sharp for discipline or for a command that is not punishment.

After learning some helpful hints on how to get through to your dog and train it to behave to your expectations you simply need to follow what you have learned. After changing your dogs behavior to fit with the tips suggested you can properly train your dog.
