While training your puppy or dog to use a crate, introduce him to new concepts slowly and gradually, so he is able to adjust to the changes without feeling stressed. When they've settled down with the gate open, slowly shut it and pass treats through the gate. Use small increments of time, and build them up as your puppy or dog becomes more relaxed with the process. If the dog becomes upset, then you need to take a step back and slow down the training.

Get your dog the proper nutrition required for canine health. A poor diet can negatively affect them in various ways. Without proper nutrition, your dog can suffer both physically and behaviorally. Sometimes, it is possible to improve your pet's behavior and cooperation simply by improving the quality of his or her diet.

Do not tie a dog up near another dog, or dogs. It is just too easy for dogs in such a situation to tangle their leads together, and this can lead to serious injuries for both of them. If the dogs are different sizes, it could be even worse. A small dog could easily choke to death if it were to get too tangled up with a larger breed.

As you are working to house train your pet, select a single term or phrase that you will use. Every time you take him outside, tell him “go potty,” (use whatever phrase you have chosen) and this will help him learn to focus and remember what he has gone outside to do.

As your dog becomes better when it comes to puppy training, you can start giving it more freedom. By having obedience along with freedom, your dog will have a happy life. Avoid giving too much freedom early on, as this can easily counteract your training.
