Sanity Saving Tips For Training Your Dog Today!

It has been widely accepted that a well trained dog leads to a better relationship between owner and pet. A well-trained dog is a more pleasant companion and makes owning a pet more rewarding. Keep reading in order to learn how to create a great partnership with your pet.

Make sure you establish feeding routines and times for your dog. Training your dog to expect that when fed, once or twice a day, you will be removing the food bowl in 10-15 minutes, will lay down a feeding schedule that your dog will adhere to. After some time training the dog this way, it will begin to finish the food before it is time to pick up the bowl.

When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. If you are able to command your dog to do something the right way, then it is good to calmly reward your dog. If you get excited, the dog will become excited and everything will be out of control. Be calm and be sure to reward appropriately.

Do not tether two dogs close to each other. Doing so could cause injuries to the dogs if they become entangled in the chains and attempt to free themselves. It can even be fatal if you tie a large dog up with a small dog, and the large dog ends up getting a chain wrapped around the small dog's neck.

It may take several times for your dog to learn new commands. It isn't unusual to have to repeat a trick dozens of times before the dog understands. Continue repeating the command patiently, and eventually your dog will understand it.

Teaching a dog how to roll over isn't too hard with a few treats in your hand. The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Then hold one treat near his head and near the floor. Pull the treat over the dog until your hand is on the other side. He should follow the treat with his nose, causing him to roll his whole body over. When he rolls over, you should say “roll over,” and repeat the process until the command is all he needs to do so. Be persistent and do not give up; it might take a while but will be worth it once they learn it.

When you approach a strange dog, make sure you approach him slowly and allow the dog to sniff your hand. That is the first step in getting the dog accustomed to your smell and building trust between you. When a dog recognizes the scent, they won't fear you and will follow commands.

Dogs need to understand exactly what your “no” means. It's important to discover positive methods of reinforcing your dog's training. It takes more than a single syllable to elicit the desired response from your dog. Not all dogs are the same, and their training needs will vary.

Be certain to maintain consistency in training. If you have a large family ensure everyone is involved with the dog training. The dog will have an easier time learning if he has only one set of commands to learn and if he knows what response each behavior will receive.

A lot of pet owners do not realize that you can easily train a dog and it does not take as much as they thought. Simple changes when it comes to our behavior on the things that we implement could reap big improvements when it comes to our dog's behavior.
