Sanity Saving Tips For Training Your Dog Today!

Properly training your four-legged friend can help make life easier and more pleasant for both of you. Use these tips. Some of these could tremendously impact you and your dog's relationship in a positive manner.

Gradual increments are easiest on your dog when going through crate training. If they are uncomfortable with the door closed then try to feed them snacks to reassure them that they are okay. Start with short times numbering in mere seconds, and increase the intervals gradually. If your puppy gets upset, then you may need to slow down and have more patience with them.

When potty training your pup, remember that whatever he eats must come out. To help regulate your dog's bowel movements, feed him 2-3 times per day. You will know when it is time for your the dog to use the bathroom, reducing accidents.

A consistent schedule of feeding and potty-time is very important when house training your dog. This will help you know when you have to take your dog outside, before he ruins your carpet. Using this schedule can teach your dog how to hold their piddle until the upcoming potty break.

“Leave It!” should be one of the first commands that a puppy learns. This command instructs them to release an object and walk away. This basic command is extremely helpful when your dog is chewing on something he shouldn't and also helps to keep him away from dangerous items.

Pay strict attention to your body language and tone of voice anytime you are training a pet. Your dog is sensitive to the tone of your voice and can sense your feelings based on it. A disciplinary command is best delivered in a stern tone.

Training Sessions

Don't give a puppy too much information and training at once, or you'll wear him out. Brief, simple, positive training sessions are well-suited to the limited supply of energy and attention a pup has to work with. If you try to teach too much, he won't like the training sessions and won't remember everything. This will only frustrate you over time.

Giving lots of treats for good behavior is important to do with your puppy. After they get the hang of it, back off the treats and only give them a treat 75% of the time, and continue reducing treats until they only get one occasionally.

Make sure you are not giving your dog the wrong signals when he behaves badly. If you seem to be amused by unacceptable behavior, your dog will assume his behavior is acceptable and will do it again. This will encourage bad behavior and make training longer. Never, ever let your pet feel as if bad behavior has somehow managed to amuse you in any way.

If dog agility appeals to you, make sure to select a breed well-suited for that. Many dogs can learn tricks and try their best, but if you want a dog that is good at competing, Shetland sheepdogs and Labs are a couple good examples of agile dogs.

Regardless of your dog's age or level of training, he is sure to benefit from this advice. Be certain to use patience as you employ these techniques. It is hoped that you and your pet will find much happiness together.
