Show Your Dog Who’s Boss With These Great Tips

If you've never done anything like it before, dog training can feel like an impossible goal. While there are some things you need to know, there are plenty of resources for a beginner at dog training. Read on for some simple, basic tips arranged to help you get started.

Crate training is very beneficial, but there can be difficulties that the following tips can help with. If your puppy seems reluctant about entering the crate, place a chew toy inside and close the door to the kennel. They will want to get to the bone, which means going into the crate. Once in the crate, let them know they did a good job by praising them.

When it comes to training Fido, time is of the essence. The goal is to avoid overdoing it while ensuring that you are devoting enough attention to the animal. You should not over do it, train in small time increments. Try to determine when your dog stops paying attention to you during your sessions.

Make sure to give your puppy plenty of toys that are okay to chew, so that he isn't tempted to chew other things that aren't okay to chew. Instead of allowing it to continue chewing on your important furniture or toys, provide a well-loved chew toy. To help your dog cope with painful teething, give him a wet washcloth that has been frozen.

Monitor your own behavior to ensure you aren't reinforcing your dog's negative behaviors by mistake. Do not pay attention to your dog or pet it if he does something you are not happy about. For instance, don't pat your dog on the head if it's jumping up on you.

Think of a word you can use as a command during training. If you do not have a treat you can reward your dog with, pet it and talk to it in a soft voice until you find a treat.

Continuously maintain all training that you have done with your dog, and consider adding new behaviors as you go. Often, owners get the feeling that they do not need to continue working with the dog once it is trained. Pets are just like humans, in that they follow habitual routines. You must remain strict with your dog.

Shock Collars

Refrain from using shock collars and similar training devices. In addition to being very expensive, they usually do not work as well as the more traditional training techniques. Plus, using shock collars could discourage your dog in having good behavior. These techniques don't normally work.

These suggestions will help you train your dog. If you keep these tips in the back of your mind when it's time to train your dog, it will kick-start your training into an ultra-efficient routine.
