Simple Puppy Training Techniques Anyone Can Use

There are many different reasons to train your dog. Dogs can be trained to be hunters, helpers, or just pleasant pets. Dogs' general willingness to please makes them ideal students. That is why they are so loved as a pet. Hopefully, this article gives you the tools you need to train your dog.

Crate training requires extreme consistency. When your puppy gets out of its crate, you need to give it the occasion to relieve itself right away. Your puppy will eventually become able to relieve itself less frequently.

You must be willing to invest the time required for practice if you want your training to be successful. It can take as many as 50 repetitions of one command before your dog learns it. Keep trying the same commands until your dog remembers it for good.

Decide on a single phrase to use when housebreaking your new puppy. When it's time for him to go outside to do his business, say “Elimination Device…Activate!” or whatever phrase you chose to call his attention to the task at hand.

If your dog wants to jump you should squeeze their paws when they do so, they will know that they shouldn't do that. This will not hurt him, but it is quite uncomfortable. It won't take long for your dog to associate the unpleasant sensation with the act of jumping up, and he will quickly stop doing so.

Training has to be consistent. If the whole family is involved in the training, everyone should be on the same page as far as commands, discipline and rewards are concerned. Your puppy will learn quickly if you only use a few different words and always expect the same behavior.

It is not good for a puppy to train too often, it will wear it out if it has to process too much information. A puppy's attention span is short and it has a limited amount of energy, so sessions should remain short and positive. If you try to do too much too fast, he will associated it as a negative experience and will resist in the future.

A loose leash is important for training. When dogs go on walks, they frequently want to explore all the new sights and sounds. Because they are so eager, they will probably strain the leash. To discourage this behavior, encourage your dog to walk beside you with a leash that has some slack.

Praise your dog to reinforce good actions. You can act as though you are super excited and talk to them in a happy tone of voice. Negative behavior should never be rewarded because then, your dog will associate this bad thing with a positive reward, which will cause your dog to only continue this bad thing.

One thing to remember when canine training is that all your actions are molding its behavior and personality. This is something you need to know since you might undo desired behaviors with horse-playing or teasing them. Do your best to lead your dog in a positive direction.

When traveling with dogs, be certain to pack all the dog will need in terms of food, sleep accessories and toilet supplies. When you come prepared with plenty of supplies, you will be able to enjoy your trip. You shouldn't bother taking some of their food on your trip. It's a lot simpler to just buy food whenever you arrive at your destination.

Dogs are trained for a variety of reasons. The fact that dogs enjoy making their owners happy makes training easy and a way to bond with your dog. It is hoped that you have gained useful insight into how to train your dog to be the companion that you desire.
