Simple Steps For Successfully Training Your Dog

Having a dog is a lot of fun and you will soon find yourself loving your dog. Raising a puppy at home can result in a ton of work. Training is absolutely necessary. Use the tricks written here and you will surely be able to train your dog easily.

Always maintain a calm environment as you enter any room your dog occupies. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. When you enter the room, ignore excessive agitation on your dog's part. By ignoring the behavior, you will extinguish it.

Choose a crate that corresponds to the size of your dog to facilitate its training. Keep in mind that they get larger as they age. Choose a crate that is sure to be the right proportions for the adult dog you will eventually have. The dog must have enough room to lie down and turn around without getting crowded.

As the dog improves, greater freedom can be granted. If you can instill a healthy sense of obedience with an appreciation for your love, you and your dog are guaranteed to enjoy your time together. Be sure not to give them too much since this can counteract training efforts.

Teaching your dog to not tug and pull when on his leash is an important part of his training. This is important for the safety of your pet, and it is also beneficial for you as well.

Have a blast during each training session with your dog. When you engage in play with your pet, your relationship becomes stronger; your dog will often respond better to you while training because of this enhanced bond. While training can be considered fun, be prepared to spend some time just playing as well.

Primary Reinforcement

Primary reinforcement is the method commonly used to train dogs. Primary reinforcement uses the things that your dog loves as rewards for positive behavior. Primary reinforcement could be treats or giving your dog a belly rub. When he likes the outcome, he'll be more likely to follow your commands.

Teaching a puppy their name is one of the first steps to undertake and creates a lasting bond. Repeat his name regularly, so he will learn to come to you when he hears it. You should teach your puppy these words first. Be sure to spend lots of quality time with your puppy, so that he will learn to know and trust you. Over time, the puppy will be able to learn more advanced training.

Pay strict attention to your body language and tone of voice anytime you are training a pet. Dogs can pick up how you are feeling. Back up your discipline with a stern, but not angry, tone of voice to communicate your displeasure.

For every time that you say your dog's name when correcting behavior, you should say his name several other times using a more positive tone. You don't want to train your dog to be scared to come when called or to think you're mad every time you use its name.

By this point, you should be beyond excited at the prospect of working more closely with your beloved pet. Stay patient and encourage your puppy to do the correct things. It probably won't happen overnight, but everything you've read will certainly take you closer to that point.
