Teach Your Dog New Tricks With These Tips

Sadly, many people rush out to buy a pet without prior consideration. It is a huge commitment. You have to make sure that your dog is trained so that it will be properly behaved and will not cause any problems. If you need to train your dog, this is the article for you.

There are different tricks you can try when you are crate training your dog. Place a treat inside the crate and shut its gate in front of your dog. This will make the puppy want to be let inside the crate to get the bone. After they have entered the crate, be sure to give them praise so they understand that they have done a good thing.

When doing crate training, train your dog incrementally rather than trying to do it all at once. If they are uncomfortable with the door closed then try to feed them snacks to reassure them that they are okay. Use small increments of time, and build them up as your puppy or dog becomes more relaxed with the process. If the puppy gets too upset then you increased the time too much, too fast.

Establish a verbal cue to let your dog know when a command has been carried out to your satisfaction. A positive word will give your dog time to obey.

Teaching a dog how to roll over isn't too hard with a few treats in your hand. Start by getting the dog to lay down. Then, use the treat to draw his head from one side to the other. He should roll his body over while following the treat. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Be patient with him when you are teaching this because once he learns it, he can be quite the show-off amongst your friends.

Do not ever use a shock collar to train your dog. They might not work like they say they do and they cost too much. Additionally, the use of devices such as shock collars can break your dog's spirit and ruin him as an enjoyable family pet. You will usually get negative results with these techniques.

Among the initial commands a dog should learn is “leave it,” which instructs the dog to drop whatever it has and step away from it. This can help get your dog to stop chomping on your belongings and help keep them safe from hazardous materials.

In order for your training to be effective, you have to understand that you'll need to be firm. However, this doesn't mean constantly yelling at your dog. Instead, find some balance between being firm and being loving. This will help develop a strong bond during your training session.

In order to reduce your dark's barking, have your dog get used to the things that are causing them to bark. It could be a particular sound or it could be the experience of being in front of other animals or people. As you begin getting your dog accustomed to these situations, he will be less likely to bark.

Any dog can be trained. Training your dog is ultimately your responsibility, the last thing you want is your dog to be constantly behaving badly.
