Teaching Your Dog How To Behave Properly

Did you get a dog and are not sure how to train it? Do you already have a pet with some behaviors you hope to rid him of? Well then, you've come to the right place! Continue reading for some great puppy training tips.

Crate train your puppy in small steps, so that the training is most effective. After they become used to each individual step and do not mind going inside the crate, try shutting the door and giving them treats with the door closed. Only keep the gate closed for short periods of time at first and increase time slowly. If your puppy gets upset, then you may need to slow down and have more patience with them.

Giving your dog proper treats is the best way to train. You should immediately reward your dog when they follow your command. If your timing is off, your dog will not understand what you are rewarding.

Make sure that you use a gradual process when training your dog. Small, focused sessions are necessary at the beginning. Note how far into the training session your dog loses his attention span. That's the time to quit.

Try to walk in your dogs shoes before you criticize them. Frustration may come quickly if your dog does not pick up your training of basic things quickly. Instead of completely giving up, consider looking at it from their perspective. Understanding their perspective can help you have sympathy for their position.

Do not tether two dogs close to each other. The dogs chains could get tangled up and cause harm to the dogs as they struggle to get free. If the dogs are different sizes, it could be even worse. A small dog could easily choke to death if it were to get too tangled up with a larger breed.

The first step of training your pooch should be to assert your control. The dog will have little respect for you and it won't obey if you do not show that you are the one in charge. Demonstrate your position of authority to your dog by leading the way whenever the two of you are walking.

Continuously maintain all training that you have done with your dog, and consider adding new behaviors as you go. Many owners believe that once training is over, the dog will be set for life. Pets are creatures of habit, and they need to constantly be taught new things. You must remain strict with your dog.

Now that you know how easy it can be to train a dog, why wait? Use the tips you've just read to help your dog become obedient. Dog love to follow the commands of their owners. They simply need to be shown what to do. Go ahead and give it a whirl.
