When crate training an indoor dog or puppy, you may try some tricks. If they shy away from the crate, try placing a chew bone and shutting its gate when they are not inside. Once they know the treat is in the crate, you will have to hold them back to stop them from getting the bone because they'll be so eager. If they do go into the crate, offer up praise and a treat.

Correcting a dog should be done quickly and concisely. Don't berate your dog with a lengthy speech. Just say no and show them the behavior you expect. You should also be certain that your voice is loud enough to get their attention, but also conveys seriousness.

Timing is essential when you are training your dog, so you want to spend enough time training them but do not want go overboard. Gradually increase the amount of time you spend training them each session. This will give you a good idea of when to put more effort into your training session.

Try to walk in your dogs shoes before you criticize them. When your dog is slow to learn, you may become frustrated. It might make things easier if you ask yourself what is going on in your dog's mind. Your dog may not understand because it hasn't been said enough.

Dogs will focus on something and ignore all else unless something breaks that attention. When a command is reinforced properly and often enough, your dog will begin to shift his focus from the distractions around to you in order to wait for your signal.

Bathroom Schedule

House training should be built around a regular bathroom schedule. To have your dog on a consistent bathroom schedule, have him or her eating quality food about two or three times every day, at the exact same time. By scheduling your feedings, you will be able to determine when you should take your dog out. This can greatly reduce the number of accidents.

Crate training requires crates of the correct size. Puppies grow up quickly. Get a crate that is the right size for your dog when it gets older. The dog will need sufficient room to rest and turn around without feeling cramped.

Treats are necessary when teaching a dog fancy tricks like rolling over. Firstly, have the dog lie down. Then hold the treat at the side of the dog's head and move it around it's face to the other side. This will cause your dog to use their nose to follow the treat. As a result, your dog will roll over. Upon seeing him roll over, issue the command. You can then repeat the command to the point where he rolls over without the added incentive of a treat. Be patient while he masters this trick. He will be a star once he does!
