These Tips Will Make Training Your Dog Really Easy

A playful new puppy can bring much joy into your household. However, without a plan in place, that joy will quickly morph into frustration. You will wonder what you just got into while cleaning up another mess. However, you can get that initial joy back by properly training your dog. We can show you how to do this if you read this article.

By giving your dog the proper amount of rewards, you'll have an easier time training. Giving you pet treats in a timely manner is very important. Your dog does not know why they are getting the reward unless you do it right after the positive behavior.

Train your dog to remain calm when you walk into the room. It is great to have playtime with your pet, but your dog should stay calm when you come into the room. When you ignore the dog on entry, they shouldn't bother you about playing.

You should never tether two dogs in close proximity to one another. The restraints for each dog can become tangled and in an effort to free themselves, they can be injured. A larger dog could cause a tangle so bad that the smaller dog could be choked by the leash.

When you train your dog, you need to establish control. Be friendly with your dog, but also be firm. Avoid allowing your dog to lead you during walks. Instead, walk in front of your dog to show that you are the leader of this pack.

Always be sure to have a reward or tasty morsel for your dog when he follows a command or learns something new. Your dog should realize why you are happy with him. Doing so leaves no question as to whether a behavior is considered acceptable or strictly forbidden.

Primary Reinforcement

When you're training your dog, it is important that you understand primary reinforcement. Primary reinforcement makes use of something that is already inherent for a dog to love getting as a reward when they behave. Primary reinforcements can include using treats, food or even a good belly rub. Doing this will show your dog alternatives for obtaining what he wants appropriately.

Understand that getting your dog to respond during the times that you tell him or her ‘no' is not helpful. If you are training a pet, find a positive way to reward them. Saying ‘no' is not a good command, and the dog won't know how to react. Every dog and situation is unique and you should adapt your strategies accordingly.

Treats, affection and lots of patience are required for successful dog training. The tips we have provided will get you and your pup started on the road to a wonderful, loving relationship for many years. It doesn't happen immediately, but with consistency, you will have a well-behaved dog.
