Tips On How To Control Your Dog

Everyone likes having a dog because they bring joy and love into our lives. Puppies require a lot of time and work. There is need for much training. Apply these ideas consistently, and you can have a perfectly trained dog.

It is important that you also train your dog at mealtime with a specific routine. Your dog will begin to recognize there is a routine if you regularly remove the food bowl 10 or 15 minutes after you put it down. Before long, your dog will complete its meal before the time comes for you to take the dish away.

Train your dog to remain calm when you walk into the room. Playtime with them is great, however, they must learn to be calm when you're entering a room. Don't acknowledge dogs the moment that you set foot in the house.

Consistency is key in crate training a puppy. When letting a puppy out of a crate, you need to let them relieve themselves immediately. With time, your puppy will wait for the right tine to relieve himself.

Avoid reinforcing negative behavior. Do not pay attention to your dog or pet it if he does something you are not happy about. For example, do not pet your dog gently when they leap on you if you want them to stop the behavior.

Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. First, make sure the dog is in a laying position. Then, use the treat to draw his head from one side to the other. He will probably follow the treat, rolling side to side as it moves. Whenever you dog does roll over, actually say the words, “roll over.” Continue to do this until your dog actually rolls over whenever you say the words without using the treat. Be patient if they don't get it right away; they'll get it soon enough!

Start training with something simple. This will act as a foundation for further training as well as help you see instant success. In doing so, you will see better and more positive results.

Try to incorporate play into your training sessions with your dog. Playful interaction strengthens the bond between you, and will have your dog striving even harder to please you during training. Training is fun for the dog, but you should set aside some real “play time” as well.

Training lessons should be kept short. The attention span of a dog is pretty short, so it is important to keep them interested in training by keeping the training short. If more training is desired, work in some break times so your dog can play before continuing with training.

Positive reinforcement is an essential component of canine training. Rewards include treats, kind words and physical touch. Never punish your dog with words or your hands. Your dog will not respond well to these methods and will not understand what you want them to do. Instead, show your dog what you expect and reward his obedience.

Now that you understand how to deal with your puppy, the time has come to apply the above tips. Exercise patience with the dog and be certain to praise proper behavior. Use the techniques from this article to help your dog become trained.
