Tips That Will Turn You Into The Leader Of The Pack

If you have a dog that is poorly behaved, learning more about puppy training can really help your dog become more obedient. Here are some great tips to start you out on the right foot.

When correcting your dog verbally, use sharp, short, concise commands. Do not waste time ranting about how bad your dog is. Say no and let them know what you would rather have them do. Use a tone which is obviously one of consternation.

If you are going to be training a pet, you should think about a word or noise that will tell your pet they did a good thing. A word like “yes” can be an effective bridge between the time that the dog exhibits the behavior and the time that they receive the reward.

If you approach a dog you do not know, do so slowly. Let the dog sniff the back or top of your extended hand. This gives the dog an opportunity to learn your scent. The dog will no longer be afraid after he is able to recongnize the scent and may begin to follow commands.

Make sure training periods are short in duration. Since dogs do not have a long attention span, short lessons will prevent them from getting bored. Allow you dog a break every fifteen and then resume training if desired.

Primary Reinforcement

When you are training your doggy friend, use what is known as primary reinforcement. This means using a beloved item to reinforce positive behavior. Primary reinforcement could be treats or giving your dog a belly rub. By doing this method of training, your dog will learn that in order to get what they want, they must do what you want.

Positive reinforcement is an essential component of canine training. Use positive language to reward the dog, as well as petting and small treats on occasion. You should never yell at your dog, or physically harm them. Doing this will cause your dog to act out even more and lose respect for you. Stay positive but stand your ground when training your dog.

In order to have a great dog, you need to learn control and firmness. You should not be yelling at your dog all the time. Be strict only when your dog disobeys or adopts an attitude you do not approve of. This will help improve the relationship between you and your dog.

Acclimate your dog to the source that triggers his barking fits. This can be things like sounds, smells, or proximity to other creatures. Once the dog is acclimated, he'll begin to see there is not reason to bark.

Use your dog's name often to ensure you have its attention. Use the name often, especially during the first weeks at home; the puppy should associate his name with focusing on you. Select a name that is short and distinctive.

Praise is key to reinforcing good behavior during training. Smile and get excited and make your dog know that he is doing something you like. Do not reward unwanted behavior. This will cause your dog to think that he is doing something good.

Dog Training

Clearly, good dog training technique is useful in teaching your dog everyday commands as well as fancy tricks. After following these tips, you will no longer be new to dog training, instead you will be on your way to becoming a training your dog expert.
