Train Any Dog With These Handy Hints And Tips

When you begin training your dog, do not give him a treat or reward just to make him stop misbehaving. You will show your dog that they can get over on you. For example, this occurs when you give a dog a treat every time it makes loud noises.

Teach your dog to get “down”. You can build from this command, or just have it handy in emergencies. The down command can have a dog drop down at any given second, which is great for safety reasons.

You need to practice having your dog come to you. No matter what the circumstances, your dog should come back to you when you call. Foster this behavior gradually to help the dog learn that it must obey no matter what. It could even save his life, so make sure it is ingrained in his mind!

Challenge your dog frequently. Even though you know he's been properly trained, be sure to quiz him from time to time.

Do not give your dog any punishments when you are in the process of training. Your training efforts should be to prevent bad behavior. Teach your dog what constitutes inappropriate behavior, and what is an acceptable behavior. Training should be a positive experience that helps to build trust, and a closer relationship between you and your dog.
