Train Your Dog To Follow Your Commands

Your dog can be taught and trained how to act properly and drop very annoying habits. Even if they don't disappear completely these behaviors can be ameliorated by using the tips contained herein. With a good training program, any dog can be a trouble-free companion.

Before you begin training your dog, you need to establish yourself as the alpha. Your dog must see you as a leader, or they will not follow your commands. Always walk in front, in the leadership position, letting your dog follow behind.

Continuously maintain all training that you have done with your dog, and consider adding new behaviors as you go. One of the most common mistakes pet owners make is assuming that once training has been completed, no maintenance is required thereafter. Dogs, though, are like people in the way they fall into habits. This is why on-going training is important.

Teaching dogs to roll over can be easy, provided some treats are on hand. First, have your pet to lay down. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog's head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. He should then roll over while following the treat. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. It may take some time for your dog to perfect the trick, but it's a popular move and one that is sure to impress others.

As the dog improves, greater freedom can be granted. Rewarding them by showing them you trust them more will only encourage better behavior. Like most things, too much freedom can be counterproductive, so exercise caution with certain liberties.

Have a good time while training your dog. By playing games with your dog, a strong bond will develop between the two of you, which helps the dog respond in a positive manner during training. While training can be considered fun, be prepared to spend some time just playing as well.

Get your dog's attention the same way every time. Say your dog's name, followed by the command. Once you call his name and have his attention, begin getting him to do what you would like. Usually, dogs quickly respond when you can their name and are aware you want to grab their attention.

Many dog owners know how hard it can be to train their dog. When the owner approaches the issue with a positive outlook and adequate self-education, puppy training is a snap. Dogs can do very well when their owners give them the proper training.
