Train Your Dog With These Great Instructions

It is common for people to adopt a puppy or dog without thinking of the consequences. It is a huge commitment. In order for dogs to behave, they need a lot of good training. This article provides the basics for puppy training.

Consistency is of the utmost importance when it comes to crate training. If you remove the pup from the crate, see to it that he has the means to go potty. Eventually, the puppy will learn to wait to pee until given the opportunity.

Do not tie up several dogs in close proximity to each other. Their chains could get tangled up and as they struggle to get free; there is a good chance the dogs can get injured. If one dog is larger than the other, it could accidentally tangle the cord around the smaller dog's neck, causing it to become unable to breath, and possibly die.

Do not reinforce any negative behaviors accidentally. Essentially, you must not give your dog something positive, like attention or a treat, when it behaves in a way you want to classify as negative. If the dog jumps at you, don't rub it's head.

By training your dog, you are helping him to become a rule follower. One of the most common mistakes pet owners make is assuming that once training has been completed, no maintenance is required thereafter. Pets, just like humans, need to be reminded of the rules now and then. It's important to be consistent with the rules for your dog.

Do not use shock collars. These devices are expensive and do not always work as well as you would expect them to. These devices can stifle your dog's natural reactions and have negative effects on even good or acceptable behaviors. These methods of training generally fail.

Be careful not to spend too much time at once training your dog. If you try to focus for a long period of time on one command, your dog will show signs of boredom and begin to get antsy. The first few sessions especially should be kept under 10 minutes.

Utilize primary reinforcement when training your furry friend. The dog has a reward they love given when they are good. Rewards can be rubbing a dog's belly or giving it a treat. This way, the dog can learn how he can get things he wants.

Even old dogs can be taught at least a few new tricks, and improving their behavior may still be possible. A dog that is improperly trained can pose a threat to others, so it is critical to seek training quickly.
